Is there a giffgaff referral code? What those codes really are
TL;DR
giffgaff has no referral code, and no field to paste one into. What the code lists actually publish is a member's username, why attribution is decided at the order step, and why every link pays the same £5 apart from one August 2026 exception.
If you just need the link, you can get your giffgaff referral code here.
Affiliate disclosure: this post contains a giffgaff referral link. If you use it, you get £5 in account credit, doubled to £10 for SIMs activated between 1 and 31 August 2026. I also receive credit. It doesn't change the price you pay.
No. giffgaff has no referral code, and there is no field anywhere in the ordering flow to paste one into. The reward exists, the code does not.
What the code lists publish is the tail of a URL. giffgaff's referral links are giffgaff.com/orders/affiliate/ followed by the referring member's username, so a page offering you "giffgaff referral code: mariaplace" is offering you my member name with the address stripped off it. Paste it nowhere, because there is nowhere to paste it. Follow the whole link or the referral doesn't happen.
Why there is no code field
The thing you order from giffgaff is a free SIM card, posted to you. There is no payment step at that point, so there is no checkout, so there is no promo box.
giffgaff solves attribution the other way round: the referral is attached to the order, at the moment you place it, and the credit is settled later when you activate. Everything about the scheme follows from that one design choice, including its worst feature.
The failure is silent, and it is total
Because attribution is fixed at the order step, a SIM ordered directly from giffgaff.com is an unreferred order permanently, and no support ticket fixes it. Nothing on the order confirmation reports whether a referral registered either, so you find out four or five days later, when you activate and the credit either appears or doesn't.
Set that against a coupon site's promo code, where a bad code fails loudly at checkout and you try the next one. Here the same mistake fails quietly, once, costs you the whole £5 or £10 rather than a slice of it, and there is no second attempt on that SIM.
Does it matter whose link you use?
On the standard scheme, no: every valid giffgaff referral link pays the new customer the same £5 in account credit, on a goodybag of at least £8. A giffgaff "code" carries no negotiated rate, no exclusive tier and no extra data, because it is a username rather than an offer.
The August 2026 Double Reward is the one exception, and it runs against the biggest referrers rather than for them. giffgaff's promotion terms exclude Super Recruiters, so "any new Joiners that join via a Super Recruiter" get £5 rather than £10, and the doubled rate is capped at 15 joiners per referrer, with everyone after that on £5 too. Nothing on a code list tells you which side of that line a stranger's username sits.
There is still no better code to hunt for, because the one difference that exists this month is invisible from the outside. Any list ranking giffgaff codes as better or worse is ranking strangers, not deals.
So the sensible move is the boring one: use a link a friend gave you if you have one, since they get the matching Payback and you can ask whether they are a Super Recruiter. If you don't have one, mine is here (opens in new tab), and I'd rather say that plainly than dress a username up as a code.
The codes giffgaff does use, and none of them are this
Two real codes turn up around a giffgaff switch, and conflating them with a referral is the most common version of this question:
- A PAC code keeps your existing number. Text PAC to 65075 from your current phone, then enter it during activation. It has nothing to do with referrals, and the two flows run independently. The step-by-step is in my post on claiming the credit.
- A voucher or discount code at checkout. giffgaff doesn't run these at all. Its sign-up reward is the refer-a-friend scheme, and its promotions are plan-level data boosts applied automatically rather than codes you type. Anything advertised as a giffgaff discount code is one of the two things above, mislabelled.
For how this compares to brands that do issue real codes, see what a referral code actually is.
What to do instead of hunting for a code
The whole process, with the code-shaped step removed:
- Open a referral link and order your free SIM. This is the only step where attribution can be set.
- Wait for the post. Free delivery, usually 1 to 3 working days.
- Activate with a goodybag of at least £8. The £6/2GB tier sits under the threshold and won't trigger the credit.
- Check your account credit balance, which is separate from Payback in the giffgaff app.
The credit lands on activation. During the August 2026 Double Reward promotion it arrives as £5 on activation and a further £5 within three working days.

giffgaff referral code FAQs
Is there a giffgaff referral code?
No. giffgaff attributes referrals from the link an order was placed through, at the order step, and there is no field in the ordering flow for a code. What other sites publish as a giffgaff referral code is the member name on the end of a referral URL, and only the full link registers the referral.
What is the giffgaff referral code for 2026?
There isn't one, in 2026 or any other year, because the scheme has never used codes. The reward for a new joiner is £5 in account credit, doubled to £10 for SIMs activated between 1 and 31 August 2026, and it is triggered by ordering through a referral link rather than by entering anything.
Can I enter a giffgaff referral code after ordering my SIM?
No. The referral is attached to the order, not to the activation, so an order placed without a referral link is treated as unreferred and cannot be changed. The only fix is to cancel the order and start again through a link.
Do different giffgaff referral codes give different rewards?
Not on the standard scheme: every valid giffgaff referral link pays the new customer the same £5, and the only difference is which member receives the matching Payback. The August 2026 Double Reward adds one exception, because its terms exclude Super Recruiters and cap the doubled rate at 15 joiners per referrer, so a link that falls outside either condition pays £5 rather than £10 that month.
Does giffgaff have discount or promo codes?
No paste-at-checkout codes. giffgaff's sign-up reward is the refer-a-friend credit, and its other promotions are extra-data boosts applied to goodybags automatically. There is no voucher field to use one in.
How do I know my giffgaff referral worked?
You don't, until you activate. Nothing on the SIM order confirmation reports the referral. Once you activate with a goodybag of at least £8, the credit appears in your account credit balance in the giffgaff app, separately from Payback.
