Is the Proton free plan enough? I used 8% of it in three years

Yes, for a personal inbox. I have been on Proton Mail’s free plan since July 2023, and in September 2026 it showed 0.04 GB used of 500 MB. That is 8% in three years and two months, and the remaining 0.46 GB lasts about 36 years at the same rate. Proton’s pricing page advertises the free plan as 1 GB and, in its own FAQ lower down the same page, says you start with 500 MB and earn the rest by completing a checklist. Two of that checklist’s four steps are Gmail migration. Storage is not the thing that will make you pay: no IMAP, no auto-reply, and a desktop app that stops after 14 days are.

Motorway fees: £29.99 to £99.99 to sell your car since May 2026

Yes, you pay Motorway to sell your car. Since 6 May 2026 it charges the seller a service fee of £29.99 to £99.99, tiered on your final sale price, VAT included, and free on anything under £1,000. The fee is only payable if the car sells. The exception is the optional £29.99 Promoted Listing Fee, which is charged before the auction and is not refunded if nobody bids. Motorway’s own fee page names no figures at all: the schedule is in its help centre. I sold a car on Motorway in 2023 and paid nothing, because none of this existed then.

October 2026 price cap: what actually changes on your bill

Ofgem raises the energy price cap to £1,723 a year from 1 October 2026, up £60 on the quarter. That figure is not a cap on your bill and it is not your bill: it caps unit rates and standing charges for one household Ofgem invented. What the change does to your region, why switching supplier moves your bill far less than the headline implies, and the one part of a switch that is worth a fixed £50 whatever the cap does.
