The infrastructure underneath is O2 (Telefonica). Goodybags start at £6, but the referral credit needs one of at least £8, so the cheapest plan is not the one that earns it. giffgaff took Mobile Network of the Year (opens in new tab) at the 2025 Uswitch Mobiles Awards; in 2026 (opens in new tab) that title went to VOXI and giffgaff took Best Mobile Handset Contract Network instead. The community model behind the support score is experienced members answering each other.
giffgaff also sells 18-month SIM-only and phone contracts, for anyone who would rather have a fixed deal than a rolling one.

Payback pays out in June and December, not on demand, and there is no limit on how many people you can refer.
Attribution is fixed at step 1 and nowhere else, which is the one thing that can go wrong. A SIM ordered directly from giffgaff.com is an unreferred order permanently, no support ticket reverses it, and nothing on the order confirmation reports it either way: you find out when you activate and the credit either appears or doesn't. A coupon code fails loudly at checkout and you try the next one. This fails quietly, once, and costs the whole reward.
