Yonder referral pros and cons

Pros

  • Generous Full-plan referral: up to 10,000 points plus £10 off and 2 months free
  • Earn 5 points per £1 on Full or 1 point per £1 on Free, with no category restrictions
  • Free tier exists at £0/month for low-stakes access to Yonder rewards
  • No foreign transaction fees on either tier, making it excellent for travel
  • Mastercard network: accepted almost everywhere, unlike Amex

Cons

  • £15/month fee on Full is hard to justify if you spend under ~£750/month
  • Welcome points are tiered: you need £1,000 spend in 30 days to unlock the full bonus
  • Requires a credit check; cashback-only redeemers should stay on Free regardless

What is Yonder?

Yonder is a UK rewards credit card with two tiers: Free (£0/month, 1 point per £1) and Full (£15/month, 5 points per £1). Both run on Mastercard, both have zero foreign transaction fees, and both are FCA-regulated.

Yonder is a UK rewards credit card designed around experiences rather than traditional cashback. It comes in two tiers:

  • Free Credit Card: £0/month, earns 1 point per £1 spent
  • Full Credit Card: £15/month, earns 5 points per £1 spent

Both tiers share:

  • Rewards: curated experiences (restaurant reservations, travel perks, and lifestyle rewards)
  • No foreign transaction fees: Mastercard exchange rate on overseas spending
  • Mastercard network: accepted almost everywhere
  • FCA regulation

The Free tier is a no-cost way to access Yonder. Full earns 5x points on the same spending, but only pays off above roughly £750/month of card spend at typical redemption value.

How does the Yonder referral scheme work?

Yonder Full referrals give the new member £10 off, two months free (worth £30), and up to 10,000 tiered welcome points. Free referrals give £10 off and up to 1,000 tiered points. The referrer earns 10,000 (Full) or 1,000 (Free) points.

Yonder runs separate referral schemes for each tier:

Full plan referral

  1. £10 off your first purchase (welcome credit on eligible categories)
  2. Two months free, waiving the £15/month fee for two months instead of the standard one
  3. Up to 10,000 bonus points, tiered by spend in your first 30 days:
    • Spend £200 → +2,000 points
    • Spend a further £300 (£500 total) → +3,000 more points
    • Spend a further £500 (£1,000 total) → +5,000 more points

The referrer earns 10,000 points.

Free plan referral

  1. £10 off your first purchase
  2. Up to 1,000 bonus points, tiered: £200 → +200, £500 → +300 more, £1,000 → +500 more

The referrer earns 1,000 points.

Note: Yonder's standard welcome offer (the £10 credit and tiered welcome points) is the same with or without a referral. The referral specifically adds one extra free month on Full, plus the referrer's reward.

Should you choose Free or Full?

Full pays for itself versus Free above roughly £750/month of card spend at typical redemption value (~0.5p/point). Below that threshold, Free is the better choice. Cashback-only redeemers should stay on Free regardless.

The real Yonder decision is Full vs Free, not Yonder vs nothing.

Full earns four extra points per £1 over Free. At typical redemption value of around 0.5p per point (per Yonder's own worked example: £1,250/month → 75,000 points → ~£375/year), that's an extra 2p per £1 of spending.

To offset Full's £180/year fee, you need around £750/month of card spend. Below that, Free leaves you better off:

  • Under £750/month spend → Free
  • £750+/month spend AND you'll redeem on Experiences → Full
  • Mostly cashing out points → Free regardless of spend (cashback redemptions value points at ~0.1p)
  • Aggressive Experience redeemers near 1p/point → Full pays from around £375/month

If in doubt, start on Free. You can upgrade later if your spending or redemption habits change.

How Yonder compares to other rewards cards

Yonder Full charges £15/month for 5x points but has no foreign transaction fees and experience-based rewards. Amex BA Classic is free and earns Avios. Chase pays 1% cashback free. Yonder Free is the no-cost rewards card option.

Key differences between Yonder and competing rewards cards:

  • vs Amex BA Classic: Amex is free and earns Avios for flights; Yonder Full charges £15/month but earns 5x points on dining and experiences with zero FX fees and wider acceptance. Yonder Free is a no-fee alternative if you want a fallback Mastercard
  • vs Chase: Chase offers 1% cashback with no fee, simpler and predictable. Yonder Full only beats Chase if you'll redeem points well above 1p effective return; Yonder Free is roughly comparable on return rate but adds no FX fees
  • vs Monzo Extra: Monzo offers cashback and budgeting tools at £3/month, better for everyday banking, weaker on travel rewards

Yonder is well rated on Trustpilot for a credit card provider.

Yonder points are redeemed for curated Experiences (restaurant bookings, travel perks, hotel upgrades, lounge access, lifestyle rewards) plus cashback as a fallback. Yonder values points at up to 2.5p each on Experiences, but their own example calculations work out closer to 0.5p in practice.

  • Can I cancel Yonder at any time?

Yes. There's no lock-in or cancellation fee on either tier. You can cancel through the app, though any outstanding balance must be repaid.
  • Is Yonder regulated?

Yes. Yonder is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Your money and data are protected under UK financial regulations.
  • Do I need to spend £1,000 to get the referral reward?

The £10 off and free months are applied regardless of spend. The welcome points are tiered and unlock progressively as you hit £200 / £500 / £1,000 of spending in your first 30 days. You still earn standard points (5 per £1 on Full, 1 per £1 on Free) on all spending even if you don't hit the £1,000 threshold.
  • What does the referrer get from a Yonder referral?

Honest disclosure: the referrer (the existing Yonder member who shared this link) receives 10,000 Yonder points if you sign up to Yonder Full, or 1,000 points if you sign up to Yonder Free. As the new customer, you receive a more generous welcome package: £10 off your first purchase, two months with the £15 monthly fee waived, and up to 10,000 tiered bonus points. Both rewards are funded by Yonder, so the price of the Yonder card and the welcome offer you receive are the same whether you sign up through a referral link or directly.
