Trading 212 referral code: a free share, usually worth £8 to £25

Trading 212 gives you and the person who invited you a free fractional share each, and its own odds put 80% of those shares at £8 to £25. The £100 on the invite page is the top of a band that pays out 2% of the time.

I opened a Stocks and Shares ISA with Trading 212 in May 2026 through a referral link, my share was worth £18, and I have paid into the ISA every month since. The current campaign runs to 3 November 2026, and qualifying takes a £1 deposit within 10 days of opening the account. You can sell the share straight away, but its cash value stays locked for 30 days.

My rating for this deal

This rates the Trading 212 referral itself: what you get, what you have to do to get it, and how long it takes to arrive. It isn’t a rating of Trading 212 as a company.

Why this rating

Almost nothing stands between a reader and this reward: the qualifying deposit is too small to matter, and the share landed when I joined through someone else's link in May. What holds it back is the calendar: between campaigns there is nothing to claim, which is how it sat from July to September 2026.

Trading 212 referral pros and cons

Pros

  • Commission-free dealing, with 0.15% on currency conversion the only Trading 212 fee on Invest, ISA and SIPP accounts
  • £1 minimum deposit, and shares can be bought by value from £1 as fractional shares
  • Trading 212 publishes the referral odds to customers in its app, so the typical share is a known figure rather than a guess
  • Invest account, Stocks ISA, Cash ISA and SIPP in one app
  • FCA regulated, with FSCS protection up to £85,000 if Trading 212 fails
  • Rated 4.6 / 5 on Trustpilot from over 100,000 reviews

Cons

  • The referral only runs in campaign windows, and each campaign's link expires when it ends
  • Anyone who has had a reward from any Trading 212 promotion before cannot claim a referral share
  • It also sells CFDs, where by its own figure 77% of retail investor accounts lose money; the referral excludes them

What is a Trading 212 free share worth?

Usually £8 to £25. Trading 212's own odds, shown in its app, put 80% of free shares in that band, 15% at £25.01 to £50, 3% at £50.01 to £75 and 2% at £75.01 to £100. So the £100 on the invite page is the top of a band that pays out one time in fifty. My share was worth £18.

Share valueChance
£8.00 to £25.0080%
£25.01 to £50.0015%
£50.01 to £75.003%
£75.01 to £100.002%

The table is Trading 212's, from the "Free shares value probability" screen in the app, read on 27 September 2026. Its Invite a Friend terms (opens in new tab) promise the weighting ("Shares with a higher value will be less common", clause 3.6) and say the odds are published on the Invite a Friend page, which is that screen. The help centre article (opens in new tab) gives only the range, and in euros: €8 to €100 is the figure for euro accounts, while a sterling account is paid £8 to £100.

The company is random as well as the value: the app says shares are "randomly selected in terms of value and company". The terms also allow the reward to arrive as several part-shares, or as cash if Trading 212 cannot supply the share (clauses 3.2 and 3.8).

A share's price moves, so the value on the day it lands is not the value a month later. Trading 212's help centre puts it this way: "Its value may go up or down, but you can't lose money by claiming it."

How does the Trading 212 referral scheme work?

Open a Trading 212 Invest account or Stocks and Shares ISA through a referral link while a campaign is running, verify your identity, and deposit at least £1 within 10 days of opening it. You and the referrer each get a free share within 3 business days. You can sell yours at once, but its cash value is locked for 30 days after it lands.

Only an Invest account (Trading 212's general investment account) or a Stocks ISA qualifies. The terms exclude its Cash ISA, CFD and crypto accounts (clause 1.2), so opening a Cash ISA for the interest rate earns nothing. You also have to be new: never an Invest or Stocks ISA holder with any Trading 212 company, and never paid a reward by any Trading 212 promotion, promo codes included (clauses 2.2.2 and 2.2.5). The £1 is the minimum deposit on Trading 212's Invest (opens in new tab) and ISA (opens in new tab) fee pages, which is where the terms point for it.

The 30-day lock covers the share's value, not the share. Sell it the day it arrives and the cash from the sale stays locked until 30 days after the share was credited (clause 3.10). Nothing else in your account is locked.

Don't empty the account in the first week. Closing it, or withdrawing everything you deposited, within 7 days of the share landing lets Trading 212 take the share back (clause 4.1.2).

In a Stocks ISA the share counts towards your £20,000 annual ISA allowance (clause 3.13). If the ISA is already full, the share goes to an Invest account instead, and if you have none you get six weeks to open one or the share is forfeited.

The referrer draws a share on the same odds. Trading 212 pays each referrer for 5 sign-ups per campaign, and after that the people they invite still get their share (clause 2.5).

When does the Trading 212 referral campaign end?

The current campaign runs from 21 September to 3 November 2026. Trading 212's referral links only work during a campaign and expire when it ends, so the link on this page stops working after 3 November and the next campaign brings a new one.

The dates are clause 1.4 of the Invite a Friend terms (opens in new tab), which run to 23:59 GMT on 3 November. The countdown in the app and on the invite page ends a day sooner, at midnight going into 3 November, so sign up by 2 November if you are cutting it fine. The terms ask for the account to be opened during the campaign and the £1 to follow within 10 days of opening it.

Campaigns do not run back to back. The one before this ended on 9 July 2026, and none was running when I checked in August and early September.

What is Trading 212?

Trading 212 is a UK investing app with commission-free dealing, regulated by the FCA (firm reference 609146). On its Invest account, ISAs and SIPP the only fee it charges is 0.15% on currency conversion. FSCS protection covers up to £85,000 of shares and cash combined if Trading 212 itself fails.

I opened a Stocks and Shares ISA with Trading 212 in May 2026 and have paid into it every month since. Alongside the ISA it offers an Invest account, a Cash ISA and a SIPP (a self-invested personal pension), and you can buy a fractional share, a slice of one share bought by value, from £1.

The 0.15% currency conversion fee (opens in new tab) is Trading 212's only charge on those accounts. Taxes and exchange levies are separate and are not its: 0.5% stamp duty on UK share purchases, for example.

The FSCS (opens in new tab) (the UK's compensation scheme of last resort for failed financial firms) protects up to £85,000 of shares and cash combined if Trading 212 fails, and up to £120,000 of cash per banking group if one of the banks holding client money fails, Trading 212 says (opens in new tab). Those banks include J.P. Morgan and Barclays, and client shares sit with The Bank of New York Mellon and Interactive Brokers. None of it covers a share falling in price: investing puts your capital at risk.

Trading 212 also sells CFDs (contracts for difference, leveraged bets on a price rather than ownership of the share), and its own risk warning says 77% of retail investor accounts lose money trading them. The referral does not apply to a CFD account.

Trading 212 or InvestEngine?

Both, if you want both rewards: they are separate schemes on separate platforms. Trading 212's share asks for a £1 deposit and locks its value for 30 days; InvestEngine's bonus asks for £100 kept invested for 12 months. The typical outcomes are close, and I was paid £18 by one and £22 by the other.
