How to get and use a Monzo referral code
If you are joining Monzo as a new customer, click a referral link and the mystery reward tracks automatically: there is no separate code to type. If you are already a Monzo customer, your own referral link lives inside the app under Refer a friend in the Payments tab.

There is no separate code or coupon to enter. The referral link itself tracks everything. This is sometimes called a Monzo referral code, invite code, or promo code, but it is always a link, not a typed code.

Who is eligible for the Monzo referral?
You must be a UK resident aged 16 or over who has never held a Monzo account. Joint accounts do not qualify. The referrer can share up to 100 referrals at the full reward rate.

You can only claim one referral bonus. If you have been referred by multiple people, only the first link you clicked counts.
Common reasons Monzo referrals don't work
The most common failure is signing up before clicking a referral link. Other issues include missing the 30-day payment deadline, using a non-qualifying transaction, or having previously held a Monzo account.
If your Monzo referral reward does not arrive, it is usually one of these issues:
- Signed up before clicking the link: the referral link must be clicked before you start the sign-up process. If you downloaded the app first and then clicked a link, the referral may not track.
- Missed the 30-day deadline: you have 30 days from clicking the referral link to download the app, open your account, and make a qualifying card payment. If you miss this window, neither party receives the reward.
- Used a non-qualifying payment: bank transfers, direct debits, and ATM withdrawals do not count. The payment must be a card transaction (contactless, chip and PIN, online purchase, or a payment via Apple Pay or Google Pay linked to your Monzo card).
- Previously held a Monzo account: if you have ever had a Monzo account, even one that was closed, you are not eligible. This also applies if you previously started signing up but did not complete the process.
- Joint account sign-up: the referral scheme only applies to individual personal current accounts. Joint accounts do not qualify.

Monzo Business accounts receive a guaranteed £50 referral reward, not randomised like the personal account mystery reward. The same referral link works for both personal and business sign-ups.
