Motorway referral code
Get a £50 Amazon gift card when your friend sells their car through Motorway using a refer-a-friend link.
Motorway's refer-a-friend scheme pays both parties a £50 Amazon gift card once the new customer sells a car through the platform, with vouchers landing within seven days of sale completion. I sold my own car through Motorway in 2023, and when I later referred a friend the £50 voucher hit my inbox about a week after their sale went through.

My rating for this deal
This rates the Motorway referral itself: what you get, what you have to do to get it, and how long it takes to arrive. It isn’t a rating of Motorway as a company.
Why this rating
Nothing extra is asked of you. The reward attaches to a sale you were making anyway and arrives within a week of completion, with no threshold bolted on. Held just below the energy schemes because it only works once, at the moment you happen to be selling a car.

Dealers bid against each other rather than making you a single offer, which is what takes the negotiation out of it: you list the car and the competition happens without you. The dealer count is Motorway's own published figure (opens in new tab). Motorway charges the buying dealer a fee and, since 6 May 2026, the seller a tiered service fee as well.
How does the Motorway referral scheme work?

The trigger is a completed sale rather than a listing or a valuation: the card goes out within 7 days of the sale being finalised and the car collected. A car that is listed and does not sell pays nothing to either side.
How to use the Motorway referral link
There is no code to type: the Mention Me link carries the referral. Start your valuation from the link and finish in one session. If you land on motorway.co.uk first and start the sale there, the reward will not track.

Getting the tracking right
- Open the referral link:
https://motorway.mention-me.com/m/nsmc/in7nx-seb-place(opens in new tab) - Enter your registration and start the valuation there, not in a Motorway tab you already had open
- Complete your profile, upload photos, and let the dealer auction run
- Accept an offer and see the sale through to collection
There is no way to attach the referral afterwards.
Have the paperwork to hand before you list
Dealers bid harder on a car they can price confidently, and a missing document is the usual reason a price gets chipped at collection:
- V5C logbook, in your name and matching the address you give
- Service history, stamped book or digital record
- Spare key(s): a missing second key is a common deduction
- Receipts for recent work, particularly tyres, brakes or a cambelt
- Spec detail: trim level and any optional extras, which the reg lookup often misses
Who is Motorway best for?
Motorway is ideal for selling a used car without the hassle of private listings. It works best for popular models in reasonable condition. Prices typically sit above part-exchange offers but below full private sale value.

No private listing means no tyre-kickers and no test drives to manage, and collection from your home is free. The auction bids hardest on mainstream cars from the last 10 years.
Not ideal for: very old, high-mileage or damaged cars, where a specialist buyer will usually beat the auction.
How Motorway compares to other car selling options
Motorway beats We Buy Any Car on price (competitive bidding vs single offer). Private sales may get 10–15% more but with significantly more hassle. Home collection is free, and the seller service fee is capped at £99.99 however expensive the car.

- vs We Buy Any Car: the price gap is the auction itself, several dealers competing against one take-it-or-leave-it offer
- vs private sale (Autotrader/Facebook): faster and less work, and the gap is the retail margin you are handing to a dealer. What that gap came to on my own car is the one figure here I measured rather than reasoned
- vs Cazoo: Motorway is higher rated on Trustpilot (opens in new tab) than Cazoo (opens in new tab)
