Freetrade launched in 2018. The Basic plan also carries a General Investment Account alongside the three tax wrappers, and the tradable list runs to gilts and Treasury bills as well as equities. Fractional shares start from £2, so a single expensive US share is not a barrier.

How does the Freetrade referral scheme work?

The deposit is measured as net funding, so top-ups minus withdrawals. Freetrade aims to reveal the share within 28 business days and makes no guarantee it will be faster.
You can sell it whenever you like; it is the cash that is locked, and the 180 days run from the award date, not from the deposit. Breaching that term means repaying the value of the share.
Shares are drawn at random from a list of UK and US companies, ETFs and trusts, weighted so the more expensive ones are rarer.
