The rewards account step, and why it decides whether anyone is paid

After ordering, Airband sends an order email containing a “Confirm your rewards account now” link. The friend has to click it and register a rewards account, or the £50 is not paid to either side. The referrer then logs in to the same platform and picks a payment method.

Every other broadband scheme on this site pays out of the order itself. Airband's runs on Aklamio, a separate rewards platform, and that changes what the reader has to do.

The sequence is: order through the link, then find the order email, then click through and register. It is one click and a short form, and it is buried in a confirmation email that most people skim once and archive. Nothing later in the process recovers it.

Then the money waits on two things, not one. Airband pays once the new customer has been installed, has been a customer for at least 30 days, and has paid their first invoice. An invoice clearing is a different event from a connection going live, and it is the slower of the two.

Once eligible, the referrer signs in to the rewards site and selects a payment option, and Airband allows up to 5 working days from there.

Can a non-customer refer someone to Airband?

Yes. Airband's refer-a-friend page does not say either way, but the FAQ on its rewards portal answers “Do I need to be an Airband customer to refer a friend?” with “Nope! Sharing the Airband love is open to everyone!” Registering on 7 August 2026 took an email address with no mention of an Airband account.

Airband's landing page says “Join our refer-a-friend program in seconds” and never states a customer requirement in either direction. The answer sits on its rewards portal instead, in an FAQ that renders client-side and so never appears in the page source: “Nope! Sharing the Airband love is open to everyone!” The same answer says the reward is paid whether or not you are already with Airband.

That is Airband's answer rather than the platform's. Zzoomm runs its scheme on the same platform and tells people to sign in with the email address on their Zzoomm account, and Virgin Media, also on Aklamio, restricts referring to customers.

Registering matched it. On 7 August 2026 the portal asked for an email address. It did not ask for an account number, a service postcode, or anything identifying an Airband customer, and it issued a referral link.

Where Airband reaches

Devon, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire, Shropshire, Cheshire and Wales. It is a rural and semi-rural network aimed at villages and market towns rather than cities.

Nine counties plus Wales is the widest footprint of the four regional networks on this site, but it is still a footprint rather than national coverage, and rural builds are patchy by nature: two villages ten miles apart can have opposite answers.

Airband's own coverage checker is the only reliable test, and it is worth repeating a check that failed a year ago, because rural networks are still building out.

The audience overlaps with Quickline's in kind but not in geography: both sell to homes whose realistic alternative is a slow copper line rather than a choice of fast providers. If you are in a city apartment block instead, Hyperoptic is the relevant one; around Southampton it is toob.

Voneus Limited has run Airband since 27 August 2026, when it bought Airband's network and customers out of administration (administrators' proposals (opens in new tab), page 58).

What an Airband customer says about it

My parents in Devon switched to Airband from Sky and describe it as a clear improvement. That is their account rather than our testing, and it is the only customer report on this page.

Airband has no Which? assessment, so a report from an actual connected household is the best product signal available here.

Theirs is a Sky comparison, which makes it a useful pairing with the Quickline switcher who came off BT and the toob household who came off Virgin Media: three different incumbents, three rural or regional altnets, and the same direction of travel in each account.
