InvestEngine cashback: £5 at TopCashback vs a £20–£200 bonus
TL;DR
InvestEngine cashback pays £5 through TopCashback and nothing through Quidco. The refer-a-friend route pays a randomised £20 to £200, averages about £30 on InvestEngine's published odds, and TopCashback's terms say you can't take both.

Searching for InvestEngine cashback turns up two separate offers, and one pays roughly six times the other. TopCashback lists InvestEngine at £5 for a completed registration. Quidco has an InvestEngine page but showed "No cashback available at this time" when I checked it on 10 August 2026. InvestEngine's own refer-a-friend scheme pays a randomised bonus of £20 to £200, and its published odds work out at an average of £29.73.
Both routes want the same thing from you: £100 invested, kept invested for 12 months. TopCashback's own terms for InvestEngine say the offer "can not be used in conjunction with another InvestEngine offer", so this is a choice between the two, not a stack. I took the referral route on my own account: £100 into a self-managed general investment account, a claim notification on the dashboard about twelve hours later, £22 paid into my cash portfolio.
Does InvestEngine pay cashback?
Not in the way a shop does. InvestEngine is an ETF platform (exchange-traded funds: baskets of shares or bonds that trade like a single stock), so there is no purchase to take a percentage of, and it runs no public discount or promo codes. What exists is a sign-up payment, and of the three places people look for one, two are paying.
| Route | What it pays | Who funds it |
|---|---|---|
| TopCashback | £5 on completed registration | TopCashback, from its merchant commission |
| Quidco | Nothing listed on 10 August 2026 | Nothing to fund |
| Refer-a-friend link | Randomised £20 to £200, to both sides | InvestEngine |
The TopCashback listing carries three conditions worth reading before you click it: "new customers only", a "£100 minimum investment", and a "12 month minimum investment period to retain any welcome bonus paid". Those last two are InvestEngine's own rules passed through, so the cashback route does not save you the £100 or the 12 months.
Cashback rates move week to week as merchants turn campaigns on and off, which is why the figures above are dated rather than stated flat. Our TopCashback page and Quidco page cover how each site pays out; check the InvestEngine rate on the day you sign up rather than trusting a number written in August.
The published odds, and what they average
Most randomised sign-up bonuses advertise a range and never tell you where inside it people actually land. InvestEngine publishes the distribution in its incentive terms (opens in new tab):
| Bonus band | Probability |
|---|---|
| £20–£24 | 75% |
| £28–£34 | 15% |
| £42–£56 | 5% |
| £75–£100 | 3% |
| £150–£200 | 2% |
Take the midpoint of each band (£22, £31, £49, £87.50 and £175), weight each by its probability and add them up, and the average bonus is £29.73.
The midpoint is an assumption, so here is the bound around it. Award everyone the bottom of their band and the average falls to £26.55. Award everyone the top and it rises to £32.90. Wherever the real distribution sits inside those five bands, the expected bonus (the long-run average across many sign-ups, not what any single person gets) is between £26.55 and £32.90. The headline "up to £200" sits at the top of a band only 2% of people reach.
My £22 sits in the band three quarters of people land in, which is the unremarkable result the odds predict. It is still more than four times the £5 on offer at TopCashback, for the same £100 and the same 12 months.
Why you can't take both
The two offers are mutually exclusive by TopCashback's own wording, quoted above. Mechanically that follows from how each is tracked: the cashback site needs your sign-up attributed to its click, and the referral scheme needs it attributed to a referral link. Whichever link you arrive through claims the account.
So the comparison is a straight one:
| TopCashback | Refer-a-friend | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical payment | £5 | £22 (75% of people get £20–£24) |
| Average payment | £5 | £29.73 |
| Best case | £5 | £200 |
| Minimum investment | £100 | £100 |
| Hold period | 12 months | 12 months |
| Where the money lands | Your TopCashback balance, as cash | Your InvestEngine cash portfolio, yours to keep after 12 months |
For transparency: the referrer, which on this site is me, receives a bonus from the same distribution when someone signs up through the link. InvestEngine funds both sides from its acquisition budget, so the fees and terms you get are identical either way.
What you actually have to do
Four things have to happen, and the order matters for the first one:
- Start from a refer-a-friend link, before you create the account. An account opened directly and then chased for a bonus afterwards cannot be attributed.
- Open any InvestEngine account: Stocks and Shares ISA, SIPP (a self-invested personal pension), general investment account, or Business Account.
- Invest at least £100 of your own money. Depositing £100 and leaving it in cash is not investing it.
- Claim the bonus from the dashboard notification when it appears. Mine took about twelve hours; InvestEngine targets two business days and says busy periods can stretch that to five or more.
The 12-month clock starts from the date the bonus is paid, not the date you opened the account, and it applies to the bonus plus your £100 together. Withdraw below that line inside the year and InvestEngine can reclaim the bonus.
The business account pays a different band
Limited companies investing idle cash get the same mechanism on a higher table: £100–£120 at 75%, £130–£160 at 15%, £170–£220 at 5%, £250–£320 at 3%, and £350–£400 at 2%. Run the same midpoint arithmetic and the average is £130.05, against a £400 headline. No cashback site lists the business account separately.
What stops the bonus arriving
The failure modes are narrower here than on a bank referral, because there is no card payment to get wrong:
- Creating the account first and following the link afterwards. Nothing to attribute.
- Depositing £100 without buying anything with it.
- Being an existing customer. The offer is for new accounts only, on both routes.
- Withdrawing inside 12 months, which does not stop the bonus arriving but does let InvestEngine take it back.
InvestEngine cashback FAQs
Does InvestEngine have cashback?
TopCashback lists InvestEngine at £5 for a completed registration, checked on 10 August 2026. Quidco lists InvestEngine but showed no cashback available on the same date. InvestEngine itself pays no cashback on investing; its sign-up reward is a randomised refer-a-friend bonus of £20 to £200.
Is the InvestEngine referral bonus better than the cashback?
Yes, on the published odds. The referral bonus averages £29.73 and pays £20 to £24 to three quarters of people, against £5 from TopCashback, and both routes require the same £100 invested for the same 12 months.
Can I use TopCashback and a referral link together on InvestEngine?
No. TopCashback's InvestEngine terms say the offer "can not be used in conjunction with another InvestEngine offer", and only one link can be credited with your sign-up anyway.
How much is the InvestEngine referral bonus really worth?
£29.73 on average, taking the midpoint of each published band. Allowing for any distribution inside those bands puts the true average between £26.55 and £32.90. Three quarters of bonuses land between £20 and £24; mine was £22.
How long does the InvestEngine bonus take to arrive?
InvestEngine targets two business days after you invest £100, and says it can take five or more during busy periods. A claim notification appeared on my dashboard about twelve hours after I invested.
Do I have to keep the money invested?
Yes. Your £100 plus the bonus must stay invested for 12 months from the date the bonus is paid, or InvestEngine can reclaim the bonus value.
Is there an InvestEngine promo code?
No. InvestEngine runs no public promo, voucher or discount codes. The refer-a-friend link is the only route to a sign-up reward.
So which route?
Take the referral link. It pays about six times what the cashback listing does for identical effort and an identical 12-month commitment, and its worst outcome, £20, is still four times the £5.
The one case for TopCashback is liquidity: its £5 lands in a cashback balance you can withdraw, while the InvestEngine bonus lands in your portfolio and has to sit there a year for you to keep it. That is £5 in hand against roughly £30 you forfeit if you pull the money out early. Nothing traps your £100 on either route: withdrawing is always allowed, and what the 12 months buy you is the right to keep the bonus. So if a year of £100 sitting invested is the problem, the answer is not the £5, it's neither.
