Two things to note. First, unlike British Gas (which pays an Amazon-style voucher) or E.ON Next (a retail voucher), ScottishPower pays credit on your energy account, the same mechanism Octopus uses. Second, the full £60 needs a dual-fuel switch; move only one fuel and it's £30.

On the headline number, ScottishPower's up-to-£60 is actually the most generous of the schemes compared here. That's worth saying plainly. The question is whether the extra tenner outweighs everything else, which is where the comparison matters.

The case for Octopus or E.ON Next is that the referral is a one-off, and the supplier is what you deal with for years afterwards:
